SUCCESS HISTORY FOR LADY WHO GRADUATED FROM TVET BEAUTY SALON DEPARTMENT FIRST BATCH.

| What happened? (In detail) | Alakiir Madut Madut was among the TVET which was established by TOCH SS through the funding from Reconciliation, Stabilization, Resilient Trust Fund (RSRTF) who was trained for three months in beauty salon skills and given start up kits and start up capital to start her own business, upon receiving her items and cash she decided to open her salon shop in Warrap town, Awul Payam, Tonj North county. She said she is now able to earns an extra income from her business of salon and she is now able to meet some of her basic household needs such as washing soap, salt, sugar, pay her children’s school fees, buy some food items and pay some money for farming. |
| Reaction to what happened? | “I am very happy that I can now earn some money to buy what I and my family needs on top of what my husband is giving me for feeding, indeed with peace everything is possible” says Alakiir Madut |
| How did it happen? | Kong Koc program targeted participants from conflict hotspots including armed youth that were actively involved in conflict and women/girls affected by the conflict, so Alakiir Madut happened to be one of the women selected from hot spot area of Awul to benefit from the training. Alakiir Madut’s group embarked on beauty salon skills training from last year Nov, 2023 and graduated this year March, After her graduation she was given start up kits and capital by TOCH SS and she decided to rent shop in Warrap town and started operating for three months now but she is able to earn a leaving with the skills she has acquired from TOCH training. Alakiir praised and encourage TOCH /Kong koc project to mobilise fund to train many women and young girls who did not have chance to get such opportunity of training, she also said if TOCH/kong koc can continue support them in their business it help them because they do not have experience in the business yet. She also requested for loan support in case there is a way. |

| Why was it needed? | Greater Tonj generally has faced years of hunger and malnutrition as a cumulative effect of decades of intercommunal conflicts and climatic extremes such as flooding and droughts. The program targeted participants from the most affected bomas to engage in life skill training programs that will support them to build resilience while contributing to violence reduction. The skill training will empower youths and young women who were greatly affected during the conflict to acquire knowledge be self-reliance and support their family and get engaged in productive activities will help reduce the negative coping strategies such as thefts, cattle raiding, robberies and conflicts. |
